“It kills me that I don’t have more to offer you… I have no lands, no fortune, no title. All I can gave you is my honor, and my heart. Which already belongs to you.”
Katherine McGee
I’ve been getting into reading more romance novels since the beginning of quarantine, and I can tell you for sure that this book did not disappoint.
American Royals centers around the perspective of four different powerful women. Beatrice is powerful because she is the heir to the most powerful family in the world- the American Royals. Sam is powerful because she is the princess- and she can do whatever she wants. Daphne is powerful because she will do anything to become an American royal. Nina is powerful because she holds the heart of Prince Jefferson.
These women may seem powerful on the outside, but they all have their own obstacles to kick down and battles to fight. From forbidden romance, to the clicking cameras of the paparazzi, the American royals are anything but normal.
The book starts off a little slow but then quickly picks up speed, and continues to stay fast paced and drama-filled with it has a lot packed into it.
This book is for the people that love all romance. This especially reminded me of Crazy Rich Asians. I think that fans of Gossip Girl will enjoy this book as well because I see a lot of the characters in the people in this book. Particularly, I found that Daphne and Ethan reminded me of Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass.
In a word this book was bittersweet. There was so much that was happy in the book but there was also some that was sad. This book definitely had its ups and down.
There is also some resentment between some of the four girls that I thought added a layer of intrigue. One of these was the hatred between Daphne and Nina, because Daphne hates that Jefferson chose Nina over her, so there is the ex-girlfriend-takes-down-new-girlfriend vibe. The unexpected resentment is between Sam and Beatrice, because they are both jealous of each other for different reasons. The characters in American Royals also have a lot of unresolved history between all of them that adds to the story that we find out throughout the book.
Some scenes in this book were kind of cliche romance book things, like in the book there is a time when there is a snowstorm, and they are all stuck inside, and I also got the falling-for-a-commoner cliche from this book.
This book is for the nice mellow Sundays when you just need to cozy up and read a good book. American Royals shows the real people behind the royals and shows that it’s not always tiaras and ball gowns in the life of a royal. This book manages to have a serious undercurrent while also having an optimistic story. This book also leaves you with a HUGE cliffhanger that frustrates me so much but in a good way. I found myself shipping all the couples together in this book so hard and I can’t wait for the sequel to this book!
